PRCA Rodeos & Competitions
What Is the PRCA?
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) has been part of American rodeo since 1936. Its members compete at rodeos across North America, earning prize money that counts toward the world standings. The top qualifiers advance to the National Finals Rodeo.
PRCA Rodeos: Events, Season & Championships
Professional rodeos feature seven main events:
- Bull Riding
- Saddle Bronc Riding
- Bareback Riding
- Steer Wrestling
- Team Roping
- Tie-Down Roping
- Barrel Racing (WPRA-sanctioned)
Each category presents a challenge the cowboy or cowgirl must complete. Some require staying on a bull, while others are timed.

When Is the PRCA Rodeo Season?
PRCA rodeos run year-round, from winter indoor events to summer outdoor competitions.
The rodeo calendar generally follows this pattern:

- Summer peak season: June–August
- Fall rodeos: September–December
- National Finals Rodeo (NFR): December

Competition dates vary by location, and some major rodeos take place outside these seasonal patterns.
